Tudo aos Molhos, a restaurant with three gastronomic concepts
Whether by mere coincidence or by stubbornness of fate, some places simply do not give up their protagonism. In São João da Madeira, more specifically in Largo de Santo António, nº 35, we find the Tudo Aos Molhos.
Previously, this busy area witnessed a constant flow of passers-by concentrating on the Café Chá, a well-known pastry shop in São João da Madeira. After the closing of this emblematic house, some businesses tried their luck, but apparently, it was the Tudo Aos Molhos that inherited success. This restaurant of curious name has as key element, a team in love with the products and gastronomic traditions of its region.
Years before the opening of Tudo Aos Molhos in January 2014, this team immersed itself in the adventure of restoration of the Orfeu, in Santa Maria da Feira, with little or no experience in the area, but with a good deal of determination. His perseverance was fruitful and allowed him to acquire the tools and the will to explore the interesting São João da Madeira market.
Nine months after the inauguration of Tudo Aos Molhos, the Santa Maria da Feira restaurant is closed and São João da Madeira sees its gastronomic offer reinforced with the combination of the two concepts. The menu ‘Orfeu’ proposes gastronomic creations, based on traditional cuisine, made by a team that has been unchanged for fifteen years, which draws on the knowledge and tastes of yesteryear.
For lovers of the ‘Francesinha’ and its unfathomable sauce, the original letter ‘Aos Molhos’ reserves endless surprises, through 40 confections, all with three different French sauces: meat, sea and vegetarian, with the option of the excellent homemade spicy tender already at the table. This is an establishment that does, in fact, truthness to the name. Finally, to these two concepts joined a third, the Gastroformas. In the absence of a strong gastronomic tradition in São João da Madeira, an idea was conceptualized that allowed to recall the industrial tradition of the city through its icons, namely shoes, hats and pencils.
We must admit that having a Viarco pencil, or a shoe-shaped patty, and finishing with a hat-shaped coconut pudding seems to be a fun way to experience the history of S. João da Madeira. However, a restaurant may not be made with just a ‘menu’. Tudo Aos Molhos is also based on synergies with local producers who provide high quality and well sought after products. In many dishes we can find the UI bread, the ‘broa’ and the cheese of Ossela, the fogaça of Feira as well as the bread of Ló from Ovar and the one from Arouca. The meats also have a prominent place, namely the Arouquesa calf and the Marinhoa beef, from our coast.
Jorge Baptista, mentor of the project, warns that every business should know how to create attractiveness for its potential customers and the success of its sauces validates his words. There are plans to expand the business, but Tudo Aos Molhos will always remain in this rapidly growing city.
Tasty news for all São João da Madeira folks.
