The story of Old Rock & Blues starts here.
The wit and persistence perfectly characterize Old Rock & Blues, located at nº142 of 11 de Outubro Street in São João da Madeira. We can draw lessons from any experience and that is what José Silvério did, after his first project, Taberna do Zé. Despite the success of the house, the result was not what was intended. José continued with the desire of having a bar that toasted the local night with a unique environment and for that it needed a market prospect. He ended up finding the ideal atmosphere in the 80s nostalgia, accompanied by his rock and blues, as the name suggests. Continuing a more methodical planning process, he idealized the decoration of the space and, with the help of friends, made the collection of materials. Then he got the space to set up the bar, which in the distant past had been a motorcycle and bicycle shop. However, there was the issue of the Taberna do Zé that was still operating. Fortunately there were those who were perfectly positioned to take charge of this establishment, perhaps someone of the greatest confidence: their own parents, who helped him to set up and maintain the business. And so it was: José left the project in the bosom of the common family and began the adventure of Old Rock & Blues.

The planning process bore fruit. The bar has started in full and has, to this day, a loyal clientele. José’s friendly friends come regularly to the bar to enjoy the atmosphere that lingers night in, and those who do not know him quickly become friends with him. Its serene and open personality brings a familiar character to the house and its philosophy of operation always puts the customer first. Jose adds assertively: ‘from the moment someone enters (in the establishment), whatever is and asks for, that person is my boss.’ It is also a matter of giving visibility to his drink of choice, Jack Daniels, who even took a prominent place on the counter, through an original lamp built with four bottles of the renowned whiskey and a tube of pvc. And the owner also gave visibility to something more precious: every Friday, bands come to the Old Rock, ensuring animation and projection of our national talent. To Saturday, the Rock & Roll to tear, full of “estaleca e genica”, fills the walls of the establishment. The future lets you foresee Dj’s and maybe a few more surprises. Old Rock & Blues may have ‘old’ in its name, but it is unmistakably the gift of the animation of São João da Madeira.
