A space for the connoisseur of coffee and its derivative cocktails
There are bar owners who relegate responsibilities and others who are effectively on the ‘battlefield.’ Júlio César da Silva Azevedo belongs to this last group and he has been leading the troops for twenty-five years. His last battlefield is the Coffee Coffee, at 45 Avenida da Misericórdia, in São João da Madeira. His professional experience includes Pinaky, where he worked for 4 years, and Bar Y, of which he was a managing partner. He noticed, however, when managing the latter establishment, installed in a basement, that people began to look for another type of night spot. According to Julio, ‘people no longer want caves, they want to see and be seen’. Hence the strategic shift and the leap into Coffee Coffee. In fact, this new bar presents a different aesthetic from his previous businesses. The space has good visibility and the decoration is living proof of the dedication and creativity of Julius. Of course there’s the help of some friends, who brought him accessories and various articles. A very welcome aid that testify the friendship for this well-known bar owner, so far that many customers were keen to follow the places where Julius works.
The bar owes its name to the fact that it is a space oriented to the coffee connoisseur and the derived drinks (namely cocktails) that are served there. The satisfaction and comfort of the client are always placed first and for this, Julio made sure that his staff was always aware of these pressing values. The technology is also not neglected, as much for the professional dedication as for the satisfaction of the customer. The ice grater is a good example of this concern allowing to serve drinks faster and at a more affordable price.
We can not, however, speak of Coffee Coffee in its fullness without discovering more playful seas. Julius is an individual with a willingness and good disposition, characteristic of someone who never gave up his young spirit. Adventurous and dynamic, he made a point of perpetuating these facets in his establishment with theme parties organized every week. São Martinho festivities are celebrated with wine by the glass and the offer of nuts, while in November, the Sueca card game is disputed in tournament. When asked about the last tournament prize problem, Julio says with a smile that the prize was not monetary but … a rooster. Incidentally, a cockerel with eight kilogram. Another question arises: the Swedish is a game to two. How did they share the prize? Well, the rooster was shared by all the players in a beautiful dinner, and in truth, it was but an intelligent pretext for a celebration among friends. Another famous activity is the mini-golf that Julius occasionally rides for general joy. To play it, one must necessary to buy a drink and there are always those who only play for the sake of holding the drink.
Júlio tells us that, in order to succeed in this kind of business, you need to love what you do, something that is easily noticeable in the enthusiasm expressed when organizing the various events in the establishment. He confesses that he would liked to see more enthusiasm in the bar branch, because after all this is an area worth not only preserving but also modernizing. Bars like Coffee Coffee are a living proof of that!
