British Avenue has Bar services, lounge and games room with a British soul
On December 13, 2015 opens in Avenida Dr. Renato Araujo, nº 438, in São João da Madeira, the British Avenue, a coffee bar that has reinvented itself to bring innovative concepts to the city.
The two sisters, Anabel Reitor and Lucibel Reitor, are the entrepreneurs responsible for giving life to this project. They do not live in São João, but they already know the city well, owing to their atelier, Spazzio interiors. Both studied engineering and industrial management at the University of Aveiro and worked in the area, however, interest in furniture and decoration soon manifested itself and they were invited to create Spazzio interiors in 2002. In July 2015they also received a proposal, by the shopping center 8ª Avenida, to open Kapry, a clothing store and women’s footwear.
The first iteration of British Avenue revitalized a space occupied by a shop closed three years ago and consisted of a space shared between the design office and the business itself. The concept was to create a house that offered two very innovative games: snooker (with table and different rules) and driving simulators for the Rfactor2 video game, complete with iron rollcage, choice of sequencial or H pattern shifter , handbrakewith spring (typically found in rally cars), analog pressure gauges, clutch and self-centering steering wheel. The difference between this type of video game and other games found in arcades is the level of realism, since a simulation will emulate real aspects of driving normally absent in videogames labelled as ‘arcade’, such as the possibility of blowing up the engine of your maserati mc12 gt1 by immediately reducing from 6 ° to 2 ° gear on a tight curve, or the need to heat tires on the warm-up lap. If you have ever dreamed of breaking the world record in Estoril, know that you only need skill, because the game is not far from real life. The integration between software and hardware was carried out by the company Gorealsims and the results are, in fact, impressive. For those who enjoy other types of video games there are more titles available and the house also has dart machines for lovers of palpable games.
Anabel and Lucibel realized, however, that the space was insufficient for a smooth operation of the business and they decided to install the design office in another place, as well as replacing the snooker table with a more conventional billiards and making a terrace available to the customers .
British Avenue was then able to breathe more freely, but sometimes it is still seen as somewhat arcade-like. To counteract the trend, since this is not a proper designation, the two sisters began to market a whole range of coffee shop and snack bar products. If you have not yet tasted a British toast, a hot dog or a crepe accompanied by a cup of tea, try it, your palate will thank you. Snacks are also very welcome when you see a football game through the huge projector that brings life to the immaculate wall.
The business also has the guidance of Tiago Marques, experienced in the area of catering and expert in preparing cocktails, always ready to organize events, such as the rock concert that filled the house, or the contest of gin and sangria .
The British is an eclectic place where it is possible to experience a wide range of emotions, from the adrenaline rush of making a virtual curve of the Le Mans circuit at 230 km / h, to the calm of an afternoon where you sip a cocktail on the sunny terrace. You just have to decide what fits your day.
