Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent’s hoop, which is elevated 10 feet above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court with a hoop at each end. Points are scored by successfully making field goals (from inside or outside the three-point line) or free throws awarded after certain fouls. The primary objective is to outscore the opposing team by the time the game ends, which usually comprises four quarters of play. Basketball combines elements of strategy, skill, and athleticism and is played both professionally and recreationally worldwide. The sport is governed by various organizations; the most notable is the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the United States, which is known for its high level of competition and global reach. Basketball promotes teamwork, coordination, and physical fitness and has a significant cultural impact, contributing to social interactions and community building.
