Ledistrónica reveals the fantastic world of electronics to the Sanjoanenses

Hello! I’m Daniel Barros and in 1991 I thought about opening a small electronics business here in our city of S. João da Madeira. It was then that I decided to go ahead with the project in a small store of 25m2, in the back of Parque América, which I thought I would call LEDS. I did it because whenever amateurs and electronics technicians needed any product related to the area had to move to major cities.

But I would like to share with you and to highlight a detail that happened in the assembly of this same store. While I was, with the help of a relative, Hugo Guerra, gluing the carpet, the temporary light bulb that illuminated us fell from the ceiling and caused the glue of the floor, we had already spread to fix the carpet, to catch fire. Unfortunately the small shopping mall had no more shops and did not have all the conditions to put out the fire, there was not even water in the toilets. We then tried to unroll the huge fire hoses, but the water did not pass and the smoke that came out of the Mall was so intense that we had to resort to the city firemen who promptly resolved the situation. Discouraged and wanting to give up on what happened, my relative took the rest of the bulb left over from the lamp and said, do not give up and keep this as a souvenir, you will see that you will succeed. It was 3 years later, with a new collaborator, Mauricio Eça, who is still part of the company, and because the space was already small, that we moved to Sto António Shopping Center. Eventually we expanded by occupying three of those spaces.

In 1994, we decided to start a partnership by admitting another collaborator, António Matos, to further expand the business, which was called LEDISTRONICA, Lda. It was then that we suffered the first setback: the partner who proposed to enter society had many ideas, even to start buying in China. Soon enough he managed to cleared our bank account saying it was to face expenses, ending up the society after 3 weeks. Not wanting to give up there was new effort to raise the company. Five years passed and due to lack of space we had to move to Júlio Dinis Street, where we stayed for another four years. We changed once again, for the same old reason – the space constraint, for Avenida Benjamim Araújo, next to the footwear union, where we stayed another four years. At this point, the electronics business began to evolve rapidly, forcing us to rethink the business strategy – to stay there or continue to expand by going into a bigger space. We decided to advance to a facility behind the Centro Medico da Praça with 450m2, plus warehouse and there we remain, growing for another six years. In March 2013, we moved to the current facilities in front of Oliva and Chapelaria Museum, where I plan to stay until retirement, God willing!

I think changes are enough. All of them were very tiring for several reasons, one due to the high stock we have accumulated and the immense responsibilities we have: six families that depend on our orientation and the results of this company. Over the years, LEDISTRONICA has become a national reference company and has helped to boost the good name of the City of S. João da Madeira, attracting many people, mainly from neighboring counties and in many other areas of the country, through our website www.ledistronica.pt.

I have to thank all the customers and friends who have been following us in this 27-year walk of existence and who have helped us get here. A big thank you to all, on behalf of the Management, which I represent, and to all the employees who are currently in the Company and to those who have passed by, because without the help and commitment of all of them without exception, we would not have gone that far.
