Bolinha Come offers Bolas de Berlim for all tastes with unsurpassable freshness

Natural of Esmoriz, but converted a few years ago to São João da Madeira, the owner of Bolinha Come, located at Rua do Dourado, nº246, brings to the city of industry, a business able to satiate the most sweet palate.

The first phase consisted of making the perfect Bola de Berlim. To that end, the couple came in contact in 2012 with a family member who owned a pastry shop and together they tried to obtain the ideal recipe. Then, after establishing a partnership with a friend, they defined their zone of action, starting in familiar territories, namely the beaches of Esmoriz and Furadouro. This first outings had good results during the summer, but inevitably faded in the winter, though they tried home and businesses deliveries to combat the low season. The project seems to have died early on, however, in 2014, Sonia and Miguel received an unexpected request. The customers insisted that they should again sell their products on the beach! Faced with such a request, and, indeed, with some pride, the couple decided to invest again in the project.

In this second phase the business grew substantially, with the area of home deliveries already encompassing the councils of Feira, Ovar, São João da Madeira, Oliveira de Azeméis, Espinho, Gaia and Porto. As a result of this growth, Sonia was forced to give up her full-time job to unconditionally support her husband who made the Bolas de Berlim. The success of the business also results in the opening of the store in São João da Madeira, a city that, according to Sónia, has a population open to new ideas. What is so innovative about Bolas de Berlim, the reader may ask? To understand, just consider the eclectic offer of this scrumptious establishment: Bolas de Berlim filled with chocolate, apple-cinnamon, nutella, kinder bueno, blueberry, pumpkin with walnut, red berries, and of course, the classic Bola de berlim.

Variety, however, is not the only strong point. The other two secrets are the quality of the ingredients and the freshness of the product. ‘I never sold a Bola from the day before,’ Sonia says, with an expression of indignation, as if the mere possibility was offensive.
But there is always a catch. Bolinha Comel suffers from a very bad one: 1000 bolas daily. Those who live in São João da Madeira know that this number tends to decrease very rapidly. Sometimes it’s four o’clock in the afternoon and there’s not even a little Bola to taste. Such an injustice!

Who doesn’t remember asking for a Bola de Berlin, when we get hungry on those lazy beach days and don’t feel like getting out of the towel? Well, Sonia Fardilha and her husband, Miguel Galante, appreciated this ritual on the Algarve beaches so much that they decided to replicate the concept in the north of the country.
